Little Miss is already 8 months old!
This is such a fun age. Eloise is so interested in everything around her and has to participate in everything she sees happening, especially anything her sister is doing. Phoebe, of course, is not that crazy about having to let her see, touch, hold, chew, and play with all of her toys. There have been several times where Eloise played with one of Phoebe’s toys and chewed on it, and Phoebe will toss it aside because it’s wet. Phoebe will say, “El-oh-weez-ee! Don’t chew on dat!”. I love it!
We started sleep training her a few weeks ago because she was waking up every 1.5 to 2 hours, wanting to nurse for comfort. The sleep deprivation was starting to take a toll on me, so we have been letting her cry herself to sleep. As gut-wrenching as it is, she has been doing very well with it. She will only cry for a few minutes before passing out and has been waking up less frequently throughout the night. So, we’re all sleeping a lot better now (except for the nights when Phoebe comes in my room at 3am holding her blanket and a book and says, “Mommy, should we read a book now?” Umm…no.).
Her favorite foods so far are yogurt, bread, apples, puffs, and fruit purees. She is very interested in trying new food, but whenever she does she usually ends up gagging on it. Once she gets the hang of chewing and swallowing solid foods, she’ll be the happiest little girl! She still says “Hi!” from time to time. I took them to the grocery store and they were riding together in the race car cart. Eloise was happy as a clam, looking around at everything and smiling at everyone. We were having our guacamole made and the lady gave Eloise a smile. Eloise smiled back and said hi. The lady looked at me in complete shock and said, “Did she just say hi to me?”. She doesn’t crawl yet, but is able to push herself backwards and roll around to get to where she wants. She just figured out how to pull herself up to stand at the coffee table, and the first time she did it I swear she was shouting “Yay! Yay! Yay!”.
We saw Santa at the mall and I was hoping she and Phoebe would smile for the picture, but as soon as I put Eloise on his lap she started sobbing. She has major stranger danger and is super attached to me, so I wasn’t surprised. Phoebe cried too, even though she was really excited about seeing him and wanted to tell him that she wanted a Princess Sophia dress for Christmas. The picture they took is going to be a classic.
I am so excited for Christmas this year, mostly because Phoebe is so excited and aware of everything. She loves playing with the nativity scene figurines and Eloise loves the silver bell that hangs on the tree. It’s the same bell that Phoebe loved when she was Eloise’s age. Nothing makes me happier than watching the two of them play in front of the Christmas tree. It’s so calm and peaceful, and every year I say it’s one of my favorite parts about Christmas.
Since Eloise is super excited about playing and into any and all things toys, I can’t wait to see her open all her presents. She is so active and loves playing with Phoebe and by herself, so having a big pile of new toys will make her day.
So much excitement around here! Before I know it, we’ll be in 2017 and just a few short months away from celebrating her first birthday! So, so, so bittersweet.
