My twenty pounder is already a half year old! This first half flew by, we’ll be singing happy birthday to her in the blink of an eye! With every month that passes, I am always finding myself thinking about how fast time really does fly by when you have children.
My Eloise (or Et-oh-weez as Phoebe pronounces it) is blossoming into a giggly, loud, curious little girl. She’s got swift octopus arms and reaches for everything and anything within her grasp. Phoebe is delighted at how she laughs and smiles at her, but is not too keen on sharing her toys. Just today, Phoebe was playing with her zoo toys and Eloise was watching and trying to grab all of the figurines. I reminded Phoebe that she needs to share with her sister, and Phoebe said, “Ok, Eloise can have the groundskeeper.” Phoebe has already figured out that giving Eloise the “less desirable” part of the toy still counts as sharing. Luckily, Eloise doesn’t know any better yet, but I am sure the day will come when she knows that the groundskeeper isn’t the “good one” and will fight and cry to get the prize toy, whatever it may be.
At 6 months old, Eloise is wearing size 4 diapers and 9 month size clothing. She can roll over easily from her back to belly, but not from her belly to back. When she is on her belly, she is able to lift her arms and head up and play with toys, and is starting to realize that she can move around if she wiggles her legs a bit. She can sit up on her own and loves to play with anything within her reach. Her favorite foods are carrots, potatoes, peaches, butternut squash, and water from my straw. This past week she had a bad cold (her first one) and didn’t eat much of anything for the week. Getting her used to solid foods hasn’t been the easiest transition. She likes to eat, but it took her a while to figure out how to move food off the spoon and through her mouth. Teething is in full swing, although no teeth have cut through. She chews on anything she can get her clammy little baby hands on. You can’t tell from any of the pictures, but her hair is starting to thicken up and come in! I’m hoping maybe this time next year we’ll be able to put a bow in it. 😉
If there’s one thing I want Eloise and Phoebe to know about life at this exact moment, it would be that watching them play together, smile and laugh at each other bring me an immense amount of joy, and my biggest hope is that they are best friends as they grow up. I hope they see having a sister as one of life’s greatest blessings, and that their relationship is strong and happy.
I can’t wait to see what the next half year brings, as it will be filled with the best, most exciting milestones!
