With the weekend here, I thought I’d share a recipe for a detox scrub to use after a night of too much fun. These days all it takes is 2 glasses of wine for me to feel like garbage the next day…just can’t hang like I used to!
Anywho, two years ago one of my good friends made me go to this essential oil presentation at our local hippie store. I was all eye rolls and silently judged all the weird oil-loving people when I arrived, but half way through the presentation I was sort of captivated by everything the presenters were talking about. I had no idea what EO’s were and had heard some people talk about them at work but ever paid any attention. Long story short- I decided to get the starter kit from Young Living and have been hooked ever since. They are not an alternative to modern day medicine by any means and I’m the first one in line for vaccines and antibiotics when needed, but they are an awesome alternative to chemicals in the home and some OTC drugs. For example, I used Oregano oil on a skin tag (yuuuck) for 2 weeks and it completely dried it up and it fell off without any doctor intervention. Ah-mazing. Dave loved how I smelled like an Italian restaurant every night after I put it on too.
Now that I’m not pregnant anymore and Eloise is a little bigger, I am back to using them and missed them so much. I love experimenting with oil combinations and making rollerballs and scrubs. I’m going to be selling some at my salon’s Girls Night Out Holiday event in December and I am super excited to spread the oil love!
Here’s my “Hangover Detox” recipe:
10 drops peppermint
20 drops lavender
8 drops lemon
6 drops rosemary
5 drops juniper
Mix all of the essential oils with 1 cup of Epsom salts. Add in whatever oil suits you best. I am not a big fan of coconut oil, so I use sweet almond oil instead. I just squirt some into the salt mixture, stir it up, and add more until it reaches the consistency I like (not too oily, not too dry).
You can use it to exfoliate your hands, as a scrub in the shower, or soak in the bath for 20 minutes.
Always ask your doctor before using oils, as they are nature’s powerhouse and can have adverse effects if used incorrectly or with certain medical conditions.
Enjoy your weekend, and hopefully you won’t be needed a hangover detox!
