My pre-baby self always thought the idea of getting a “push present” was a little vain and over-the-top. Why would anyone require their spouse to buy them a gift for something they both chose to do? Fast-forward to now, and I am a huge fan of push presents. First of all, hell yes I deserve a present for pushing something the size of a watermelon out of the size of a walnut. Second, it’s not everyday that you get to receive a nice gift from your spouse, so why not? And last, I look at it as more of a commemorative gift to celebrate being a mother and celebrate my child, and less of a “reward me for giving birth” type of gift.
In my search to find gift ideas, I was a little disappointed at what all the mom/parenting websites were suggesting. Flowers? No. Those die and are a nice gesture, not a present. A massage? Yes, I’ll take that but again it’s not a tangible gift I will always have. One website even suggested helping the new mom out around the house with chores. Are you kidding me? If that’s considered a gift, then let’s make watching football all day on Sunday a Christmas/birthday/Father’s Day gift for him.
For my first daughter, my husband saved up and bought me a beautiful ring from Macy’s that has her birthstone and little diamonds. It wasn’t terribly expensive and I love it more than any other piece of jewelry I own because of the meaning behind it. I want to do something similar for baby #2 so I’ve rounded up some push present ideas to help commemorate baby and mama.
I put the Samsung Galaxy S7 in there because I realize not everyone loves jewelry, plus having a brand new phone with an amazing camera is perfect for new moms that take 1,000 pictures of their baby everyday. Like me.
