Guten Tag from Switzerland!
We arrived in Zurich on Wednesday via train from Paris. I won’t even go into that dreadful experience. Let’s just say we missed our train because our cab driver took us to the wrong train station and had to re-purchase new tickets for close to $300. Our original tickets were only $50. Oh la la la la la.
Anyways, we have been thrilled so far with Switzerland. Everything is beautiful here. Zurich is calm and not as crazy as Paris, and it has beautiful parks for Phoebe to run around and play.
We spent a day in Zurich enjoying the sites and trying the local food including Swiss McDonald’s and Sprungli.
McDonald’s is McDonald’s. Nothing special about it, but it was good for 2 things.
1.) to get out of the down pouring ran we got caught in
2.) a Happy Meal with a toy to keep Phoebe and her Swiss/German/Greek/American cousin Lennert happy and occupied.
Sprungli is where it’s at. Let me tell you about Sprungli, pronounced Sh-prun-gl-ee.
It is the ultimate luxury Swiss chocolate experience. They make all sorts of truffles and chocolate pastries, ice cream, and they are also known for their little macaroons called Luxemburgerli. The cafe we ate at was opened in 1845. The company is still run by 6th generation descendants of Rudolf Sprungli.
We ordered 4 desserts- a raspberry creme mousse, a vanilla creme Napoleon, a chocolate mousse cake, and a clown ice cream for the kids. It was beyond amazing.
So far, Zurich has been wonderful. We are so impressed with Switzerland. It is calm, clean, and the people are very friendly. The rest of our Swiss stay will be in the Alps, so get ready for some gorgeous mountain scenes and crazy amounts of Gruyere cheese pics!
